11.
Athlete: Claire Walters
Year: Junior, Class of 2020
School: Fayetteville-Manlius (FM)
Analysis: Fayetteville-Manlius (NY) has had its fair share of talent over the last 12 years, though junior Claire Walters is shaping up to be one of the program's best. Her sophomore season was uber successful, with a fifth-place finish at NXN (17:55.00), a third-place outing at NXR New York and a third-place nod at the New York State Championships in Division I.
With the Hornets, a girls program that's won 11 out of the last 12 national championships, it's never really about the individual performance. But Walters showed in 2017 that she could throw down with the likes of anyone, scoring a huge win at the Manhattan Invitational in a 4K PR of 14:13.20. She dropped three times under 18 minutes, including a PR of 17:35.80.
