Tamari Davis Runs Freshman Class 200m Dash Record

Gainesville High School's Tamari Davis set a national freshman class Indoor 200m record at the Dunamis Super Meet in Atlanta on Friday night. Davis ran 23.54 beating the previous record by .01 seconds. The old record of 23.55 was held by Ashton Purvis from St. Elizabeth High School, in Oakland, California. Purvis went on to run for Texas A&M University.

Earlier this season Davis earned the US No. 4. spot in the 200m with a time of 24.08. With her new mark she now sits at US No. 2 only behind Denver Lightning's Arria Minor.

This could be just the beginning of Davis's record-setting high school campaign. As only a freshman, Davis has run 23.54 in the 200m and 7.60 in the 60m dash earlier this year. While still in middle school, Davis ran 11.34 (wind-aided) in the 100m, 23.21 in the 200m for a 14-year-old age group record and 58.03 in the 400m.

She will be running the 60m dash tomorrow but her participation in the 200m finals is still to be determined, according to her coach Gary Evans. Evans also said her goal is to run 22 seconds in the 200m this outdoor season.
