Danny Kilrea Beats Dylan Jacobs At The Illinois State Meet
Both were trying to break the 40 plus year-old Detweiller Park park course record of 13:50 set by Craig Virgin.
Both would ultimately come up short.
Kilrea ended up taking the win in 14:08, which is actually just off his PR of 14:02 for the course. He ran his PR earlier this year at the First to the Finish Invitational. Jacobs ultimately finished sixth in the field in 14:36.00.
Clayton Mendez from Whitney Young High School took second running 14:22 while Tommy Brady from Maine South took third 14:29.
A battle not to be overlooked on the team side was between Flo50 No. 5 ranked Downers Grove North (DGN) High School and Flo50 No. 12 ranked Neuqua Valley High School. DGN took home the win, scoring 73 points, and was led by Jacob Ridderhoff. The program had an unbelievable 17-second split between its scoreres and an 14:45 average over the 3-mile course.
Neuqua Valley High School took second with 149 points and a 44-second spread. They held a 14:59 average.
