There's something to be said about going out fast.
But North Rockland (New York) High sophomore Katelyn Tuohy did just a little more than that, breaking an old record held by New York legend Aisling Cuffe by winning the Red Raider 3-Mile run in a course record 16:24.99 on Friday at Bear Mountain State Park.
The effort stands as the new US No. 1 effort at 3-miles and is the 31st fastest time at 3-miles since our database started tracking times in 2000. She has the 14th fastest time in September over that span.
Tuohy was over three minutes faster than the second place finisher and broke Cuffe's record of 16:27.20, which stood since 2010. Cuffe later went on to win Foot Locker Nationals in 2010.
