Teen phenoms Grace Ping and Drew Hunter tore it up at the nation's largest Turkey Day race, the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot in California.
Ping placed 16th in the professional women's field with a new 5K PR of 16:36, a new world record for 13-year-olds. This is her third 5K road race world record, as she is the fastest-ever 10-year-old (18:19) and 11-year-old (17:28.3) in the event. The prior 13-year-old record was 16:43, set in 1995 by Yui Fukuda of Japan.
Ping, an eighth grader from Utah, was recently ruled eligible to compete at NXN next weekend after a controversial back-and-forth with Nike.
Hunter, a 2016 graduate of Loudoun Valley High School in Virginia who runs professionally for adidas, placed 11th overall in 13:56. The run marks a new 5K PR for Hunter, who is a middle-distance specialist. His last race was a mile PR of 3:57.15 at the Sir Walter Miler in August.
