Ella Donaghu is a confirmed entrant in the adidas Dream Mile, now to be contested as a 1500m. She owns a PR of 4:15.28, which makes her the No. 8 performer in prep history.
The adidas Dream Mile is no more -- well, sort of. As the event enters its sixth year, adidas Running has confirmed that the elite post-season high school girls race will switch distances from the full mile to the 1500m.
The boys race is still scheduled as a Mile, but meet officials are considering changing it to a 1500m as well.
A rabbit will pace the girls field with the U.S. Olympic Team Trials standard of 4:09.5 as a target. The rabbit will likely be a professional runner, but no name has been released yet.
If the boys race were to switch to a 1500m, it would likely be paced for the Trials standard of 3:38.0.
Confirmed girls entrants include Caitlin Collier of Bolles, Fla., Ella Donaghu of Grant, Ore., Nevada Mareno of Leesville Road, N.C., Rachel McArthur of Patriot, Va. and Madie Boreman of Leander Rouse, Texas.
The distance switch is the second major change to one of the sport's preeminent prep events. 2016 marks the event's first year in Boston, as part of the inaugural adidas Boost Boston Games on Friday, June 17 in Dilboy Stadium.
The adidas Boost Boston Games will feature distance races on Friday night on a traditional track, while Saturday's sprint, hurdle and field events -- including the Dream 100 race -- will take place on historic Charles Street between the Boston Public Garden and Boston Common.
