NXN New York (NY)
FM Girls, Ben Petrella Resume Position
Section 3 Sends Two Teams To Portland
Liverpool's Ben Petrella--who earlier this year won a state championship in course record fashion--won the boys race over Saratoga Springs' Aidan Tooker. East Aurora's Kenny Vasbinder was third, Maine-Endwell's Dan Schaffer was fourth, and McQuaid Jesuit's Donny Glavin was fifth.
Petrella's Liverpool squad won the team race with 77 points, and despite failing to qualify for the state meet, Fayetteville-Manlius automatically qualified for NXN in second in 107. (That's with Peter Ryan out, too) East Aurora was third with 109 points, positioning themselves well for an at-large bid.
Tooker, Schaffer, and Glavin are definitely individual qualifiers; Petrella is definitely a team qualifier; Vasbinder will wait for the announcement of the at-larges. Seventh-place Noah Carey of Guilderland is in as an individual and ninth-place Nathan Lawler of Pittsford-Mendon will go if Vasbinder is a team qualifer.
Kaitlyn Neal Resume Lead Spot For FM
In the girls race, Fayetteville-Manlius senior Kaitlyn Neal led her team to victory. Like every NXN New York regional championship ever held, F-M and Saratoga Springs snapped up the two auto bids to Portland. F-M won with 38 points (and with state champion Claire Walters as their seventh finisher!), Saratoga was second with 80, and North Rockland was third with 117.The five individual qualifiers--assuming no at-large bids--are Elmira's Abbey Wheeler, North Shore's Diana Vizza, eighth graders Mary Hennelly of Suffern and Katelyn Tuohy of North Rockland, and Mamaroneck's Lauren Chapey.
