1. Noah Lyles Is The Man Of The Meet
His No. 4 All-Time 10.14 on Friday afternoon wasn't enough.
After coming off the curve slow at New Balance last weekend, Noah Lyles was ready and prepped to come out the blocks fast in the 200m in Eugene on Saturday.
"[My coach] said if I get on the turn, if I get out and sling myself out, you're going 20-point-oh!" he said.
The T.C. Williams, Va. junior did just that, racing 20.18 - the third-fastest time in prep history for 200m.
Even still, he's got his eyes on another number - 20.13, the national high school record set by Roy Martin in 1985.
"I'm not done at all. We got a whole 'nother month to get prepared," Lyles said.
The win was remarkable not only for the time, but for the caliber of competition. Lyles outran Michael Norman, who entered with the fastest seed time and now ranks U.S. No. 5 All-Time at 20.24, as well as Ryan Clark, a multiple-time national champion who finished runner-up to Lyles in the 200m at New Balance.
The match-up was a first between Lyles and Norman, who will both return next year as high school juniors.
