2. Texan Travis Tolliver Has PR Day 1 In Decathlon; Can He Handle The Pressure Tomorrow?
One year after finishing eighth at the USATF Junior Nationals decathlon, Travis Tolliver of Houston Episcopal, Texas finds himself primed in perfect position for top three.
He enjoyed a Day 1 PR of 3,370. The dangerous part for his competition is that he considers himself a Day 2 specialist.

"I wanted to keep the snowball rolling," he said. "It's kind of a snowball effect, like Ashton Eaton once said. You run the 100 and kind of carry the momentum to the long jump and through the first four events it was PR, close to PR, PR, PR. I really got the momentum moving and I was able to come up with a big Day 1 score."
The Junior Nationals competition is fierce, as Tolliver found himself lining up next to Harrison Williams of Stanford, who placed fourth at NCAAs in the decathlon as a true freshman this month.
"It's a little intimidating," he said. "I've seen Harrison run 47.1. You know he's gonna gap the field but you just have to get through it."
Next year, Tolliver will attend the University of Texas. The Longhorns have a stable full of strong decathletes, including 2013 NCAA champion and 2014 runner-up Johannes Hock.
