Donavan Brazier of Kenowa Hills, Mich. is the top-ranked prep in the 800m with the U.S. No. 4 All-Time mark of 1:47.55.
Boys 3000m Steeplechase
Bailey Roth won the 2014 New Balance Nationals Outdoor Championship in the 2000m Steeplechase as a senior at Coronado High School, Co with a time of 5:41.67. As a freshman at the University of Arizona, Roth owns a best time of 8:47.04. He won the USATF Junior Nationals last summer and finished 10th at the IAAF World Juniors.
Boys 800m
The 800m race is featuring a match up many have been waiting all year to see between U.S#1 ranked Donavan Brazier and U.S.#3 ranked Myles Marshall. Brazier holds the fastest time in the country and U.S. #4 All-Time with his 1:47.55 which he ran just last weekend at the Brooks PR Invitational. Marshall had a sold time last weekend as well running a 1:48.86 U.S.#3 but came up short of first just behind John Lewis. Last year the Harvard commit took home the gold at the World Youth Olympic Games, running a 1:49.14.
Other key high schoolers to watch in this field are Carlton Orange who ran a U.S. #7 1:50.45, Lucas Trapp who ran a 1:50.80, and Josiah Langstaff coming in to the field running a 1:51.36.
Boys 1500m
This could be considered one of the biggest races of the weekend with guys like Logan Wetzel, Matthew Maton, Grant Fisher, and Andrew Hunter leading the field. Fisher and Hunter have faced off against one another the past two weekends both having run the Dream Mile and then running the 2mile at the Brooks PR Invitational. Fisher beat Hunter at the dream mile running a 4:01.73, but Hunter got the best of Fisher pulling off a huge upset winning the Brooks PR 2mile with a U.S.#9 All-Time performance of 8:42.51. Could Hunter pull of another upset this weekend in the 1500m?
With Matthew Maton back in the mix this could be tough. Although Maton hasn't raced since he ran sub four in a field of college and pro athletes at the Oregon Twilight Meet, he's definitely a guy to watch having run 3:59.38. Wetzel may not have have the accolades of the other three high schoolers but he did finish fifth overall in the Dream Mile running a 4:04.60, and just this past weekend he helped anchor his relay teams (4x800,DMR) to two All-American finishes at New Balance Nationals Outdoor.
These high schoolers will be given a run for their money from Oregon freshman Blake Haney who will be racing on his home track at Hayward Field. The true freshman finished third in the 1500m at NCAA's only a few weeks ago running 3:55.12, and earlier this year he beat Fisher in the 1500m running 3:41.27.
Boys 5000m
Matthew Maton is back! Can the Summit, Ore. senior defeat future teammate in Kyle Levermore? The sub-four minute miler will end his high school career with races in the 5k and 1500m this weekend after resting a sore Achilles since his historic 3:59.38.
Other top preps in the field include All-Americans Thomas Pollard of Gilbert, Iowa and Levi Thomet of Kodiak, Alaska, who have run 8:53.26 and 8:58.21 for two miles, respectively.
Boys 10,000m
The lone high schooler in this race is Duncan Reid of Palos Verdes High. The rising senior ran a 15:55.00 this past cross country season to take 29th at the California State Meet. He also finished runner up at the Reebok Manhattan HS Invitational running a 13:49.20 for 4,000m.
Boys 10,000m Racewalk
Cameron Haught won the boys mile race walk just this past weekend at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor race-walking a 6:46.23. Last year at USATF Junior Nationals Outdoor he race-walked the 10,000m in 48:41.99 taking third. The guy who took second last weekend at New Balance Nationals Outdoor was Alexander Peters race-walking the mile in 7:09.89.
