Nine victims died in a hate crime shooting on Wednesday night at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina.
That number includes Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, the girls track and field coach at Goose Creek High School. She was a reverend at the church, which is the oldest African Methodist Episcopal church in the south.
The suspect was apprehended around 11:30 a.m. ET on Thursday morning. He is in custody in North Carolina.
Coleman-Singleton worked for Berkeley County Public Schools since 2007 and was also employed as a speech therapist at the school.
She leaves behind three children, including her oldest son, Chris, who just finished his freshman year and plays both basketball and baseball.
Goose Creek baseball coach Chris Pond told The Berkeley Independent, “She was one of the best baseball fans you could have for your team. She loved baseball and loved Chris… She loved everyone and always had a positive attitude about everything. She’ll be greatly missed."
