Current US#2, John Lewis, will get another crack at fellow Pennsylvanian Sam Ritz. Ritz, headed to Columbia in the fall, got the best of Lewis at the John Hay Memorial, defeating the Cheltenham senior by two tenths of a second. While Ritz can claim the victory in that race, Lewis is one of only two high schoolers under the 1:50 barrier this season. The future Clemson Tiger was less than a second from cracking into the top ten all-time list when he ran 1:48.72 at the PIAA State Meet, setting a state record for the event.
Not to be overlooked is the New Balance Indoor Champ, Brian Bell from Dunbar, Ohio. The OH State Champ is undefeated in the half mile ever since he was 8th at 2014 New Balance Outdoors.
Myles Marshall will look to come up big yet again this year after running 1:49.24 to place second in this event a year ago. The Kingwood senior has the fastest PR in the field, 1:48.43, a time in which he qualified for the IAAF Junior Championship. While 1:51.88 is hardly considered a down year, Marshall will need to replicate his junior performances if he wants to take the number spot this time around.
