Georgia's Ryan Clark, Candace Hill Sweep Pre Classic 200m

Girls 200m - Candace Hill, Diamond Spaulding again 1-2

Candace Hill entered as the top seed and ran decisively to win in 23.64, though a fast-closing Diamond Spaulding nearly ran her down at the end of the track in 23.72. The 1-2 finish mirrored their finish at New Balance Nationals Outdoor last year. After the race in the commentators' box, Hill told Steve Cram that she felt like she was dying during the second half of the race and was just trying not to get passed. If Spaulding had a little more real estate, she could have stolen the show as the Florida state 200m champion ran the strongest second half of the race.

Quick Takes:

  • Will we see rematch No. 3 between Hill and Spaulding at New Balance Nationals? These two have serious firepower and the rivalry is a fun one to watch that unfortunately is nearly over as Spaulding will graduate and attend Texas A&M next year
  • Florida won the unofficial "FL vs. GA" race in the Girls 200m as Spaulding led Lakayla Harris of Miami Northwestern and Symonse Mason of Miami Southridge to a 2-3-4 finish. Hill won the overall title, but stateside compadre Micaiah Ransby of North Springs, Ga. placed eighth in 24.62
  • That said, Georgia wins the overall sprint title as girls champion Hill and the boys champion in Ryan Clark of Banneker, Ga. swept the Pre Classic
