Saturday Quick Highlights from Penn Relays:
- Boys 400m Hurdles - Rai Benjamin (Mount Vernon NY) challenged Jamaican hurdler Marvin Williams for the win, but had to settle for runner-up honors and new US #1 time in 51.29. Williams took the Penn Relays title in 51.10. Previous US leader John Lewis (Cheltenham PA) claimed third place.
- Boys 4x400 Qualifying Heats - Despite all the amazing Jamaican teams, TC Williams (VA) runs the fastest qualifying time in 3:12.17 with the Lyles brothers both splitting 45s: Noah (45.60) and Josephus (45.71). Cheltenham (PA) also will make the COA Final with a 3:15.86 out of an all Pennsylvania teams heat.
- Championship of America Boys 4x100 Finals - Calabar makes history setting the Penn Relays COA HS Boys 4x100m record with a blazing 39.63.
- Small School Boys 4x100 Finals - Tabernacle makes the trip from the Bahamas well worth it as the win in 41.39.
- Large School Boys 4x100 Finals - Bowie (MD) takes down Cheltenham (PA) with a 41.26 winning time.
- Championship of America Boys 4x800 Finals - St. Elizabeth (JAM) and Kingston College (JAM) go 1-2 both running 7:38. Nordhoff (CA) comes out of nowhere to snag 3rd in 7:43.93 as first US team.
- Championship of America Boys 4x400 Finals - Despite the Lyles brothers running the two fastest splits in the whole field, Noah (45.4) & Josephus (46.22), TC Williams (VA) fell to a 4th place finish. Calabar (JAM) won in 3:09.97. Cheltenham (PA) was the 2nd US team in 3:15.39.
- Boys High Jump - Clayton Brown (JAM) wins in 6-10.25 with top US contender, Bradley Jones (VA) coming in 2nd with a clearance of 6-9.
- Boys Pole Vault - Both Iona Prep (NY) senior Ryan Herrera-Murphy and Glenelg (MD) senior Calvin Pitney cleared 15-9, but it was the New Yorker that will be headed back north with a new watch around his wrist.
- Boys Triple Jump - Odane Lewis' (JAM) 50-5 led a group of five Jamaicans before the top American, Jared Lovelace (NY), in 6th with a triple jump of 47-6.5.
